¡Hola a todos! So, this will be the only post that I post on this blog! Hopefully I can convince mi hermana to keep this updated while I'm gone. I decided to make a blog to post my mission endeavors while I serve in the Arizona Phoenix, Spanish Speaking mission. This way, everybody can stay up-to-date with my activities, find my updated contact information as I transfer from one area to another, and see pictures of my time in the wonderful Southwest.
To bring everyone to the same level, I received my mission call at the end of April to the Arizona Phoenix, Spanish Speaking mission. To those who aren't members of my faith and aren't really sure what a mission is let me provide a bit of a description of what I'll be doing. A mission is where men (usually at age 19) and women (at age 21), if they so choose, are assigned by the leadership of the church to serve for 2 years (or 18 months for sisters) in some area of the world. For example, I have friends that are serving from Seirra Leon, Africa to Helsinki Finland and Donetsk, Ukraine to Lima, Peru. A lot of times, missionaries will be called to a stateside mission (such as myself.) However, even though we serve in the US, many learn a foriegn language (once again, I fall under that category.) During our labor, we spread the gospel of Jesus Christ to all who are willing to listen.
During this time, missionaries are prohibited to have cell phones, laptops, or (basically) any other type of electronic entertainment. Sometimes (depending on the mission or location) missionaries are allowed to have e-mail accounts where they can send e-mails to their friends and family. Missionaries are allowed to call home 2 times a year: Mother's Day and Christmas (so, sorry everybody, you won't be able to hear my fabulous voice for the next 2 years come JULY 20th).
